San Diego show by Steven D
Okay, lets try to jar that memory. I have had so many deadlines
to met this week guys I am suprised I can still see straight!
Forgive me for being brief but the memory is not quite there.
The guys played at Humphreys by the bay. Which is an amazing place
to see anybody, being that this is not your normal concert venue. I guess
you can say it really isn't. It's just a hotel on the bay that somebody
had a great idea to put a stage in the middle of. backstage is basically
the hotels courtyard and rooms...Talk about
Maverick sightings!
So on to the show. The show started as usual. The Greek thing and
all the guys took the stage just as the place filled in and jumped into
D.T.N.A. and pretty much covered the first half of Trampoline. Which led
into the re-worked version of Pretend.
The show then moved to Raul's spotlight where he performed Dream
River and the capped it off with Can't Help Falling In Love. With a huge
round of applause. Then somebody in the audience said "Cantante en Espanol"(translation:
sing in Spanish!) Raul quipped "I need a little tequila to do that.
They then did something I really can't recall at this time; something
off of M.F.A.O. I believe it was Foolish heart. Soon after that somebody
came back from the bar with a shot of tequila for him. So he sucked it
back and said "I promise I'll do something for you all" or something to
that fact.
from hear on out It was a greatest hits type show.
Then came the 3, yes 3 encores. The first 2 totally expected. The
3 caught me by suprise I as walked towards
the exit and ending up getting stuck 1/4 off the way back!
The first two encores were pretty much the same as the Las Vegas
shows which I told you about last week. The third encore was the best...It
including "Help Yourself, Volver...Volver, and finishing with La Mucara.
Or was it Twist and shout? I can't really remember the memory is hazy.
Hopefully Shirley can confirm the order of
the encores.
Greeaaaatt Show...Bad Sound mix...Awesome venue...The Mavericks!
That's all that mattered! I got pictures coming soon!
The Los Angeles show days before with Dwight Yoakam was a quick
run through of their country days. Great 1 hour show that brought
the house to their feet. The funny quote of the night was from Raul to
Robert as he took his time getting ready to play another song. "Your pants
plugged in yet?"... "Yeah!" This being directed to those flashy pants Roberts
been wearing lately.
